Helping practices to be their best.

Better Medical’s Newest Acquisitions Share Deep Commitment to Registrar Training

Better Medical is committed to GP Registrar training, and in April, welcomed six new clinics to its growing group of practices – each with a strong teaching culture.

These high-quality clinics, Eastern Shore Doctors (Tasmania), Brooke Street Medical Centre (Victoria), and Plaza Family Health (Queensland), bring with them experienced teams and a wealth of knowledge gained after serving their local communities over many decades.

Established in 1990 by Dr John Saul in Lauderdale, Eastern Shore Doctors has grown to 40 GPs and 50 staff working across three general practices and a dedicated skin cancer clinic in Hobart’s Eastern suburbs. With an excellent reputation and loyal patient base, these practices provide high-quality healthcare across a comprehensive range of general and specialised medical services. Focused on Registrar training, the clinic owners are also very well known within the industry, with Dr John Saul a current AMA Tasmania Board Member, and Dr Tim Jackson, the current Chair of RACGP Tasmania.

Better Medical CEO, Mr Jeremy Stones, is excited to have Eastern Shore Doctors join the group.

“Eastern Shore Doctors will be a valuable addition to our clinic network in Tasmania. In turn, I know our existing teams will have experiences and knowledge to share with Eastern Shore Doctors,” says Mr Stones.

Located in the outer north-western Melbourne suburb of Woodend, Brooke Street Medical centre comprises a six-bay treatment room with ambulance triage and on-site x-ray to support the local community with limited access to hospitals in the region. The large facility has three interconnecting buildings, 23 consult rooms and an on-site rehabilitation gym. There are also teaching areas for students from Monash University as part of a long-standing medical student teaching program.

Brooke Street Medical Centre’s 17 GPs and Registrars work alongside almost 30 nurses and staff, and a team of Allied Health professionals, including psychologists, physiotherapists, and an exercise physiologist. This multi-faceted clinic is the first of its kind for Better Medical and offers on-site radiology, pathology, podiatry, audiology, cardiology, and an eye clinic. “I look forward to learning from Brooke Street Medical Centre’s experienced team as they continue to deliver critical healthcare services to the community,” says Mr Stones.

“Likewise, I am excited to introduce Plaza Family Health in Cairns,” he says. “The family-oriented practice was established in 2013 by Dr Chris Goodall and Dr Sue Swanston. It is a small, close-knit team with a very strong teaching culture and Registrar program. Located in the Mt Sheridan Plaza Shopping Centre, the clinic offers a high-quality, nurse-led patient care clinic specialising in women’s health and chronic disease. It has on-site pathology, and we hope to increase its Allied Health offering in the coming months. There are currently three GPs with two more doctors joining mid-year, who are passionate about providing the growing population in the south of Cairns with high-quality healthcare,” says Mr Stones.
